Every now and then I like to go back and look at old advertising posters. It's what I do when I can't/won't sleep and what I find makes me happy. It's a way of getting my head into simpler times and a…

35% of all people go to dinner on Valentine's Day. What a home run for the restaurant industry, the flower industry and the chocolate industry. Oh, did I forget the greeting card industry?
Now if we can just go about finding a holiday for the bowling industry. I nominate the NFL Super Bowl as the bowling industry's holiday. We could celebrate it by placing a… Continue

I am new to the Bowling Center Industry, however, I am completing my Business Plan and searching for possible locations in the SW Riverside County area ( Temecula, CA). My structure is a limited Partnership for the 20-25% down payment. I have projected that a new center will cost in the neighborhood of $5mil for a 40 lane at $95,000 per lane, construction and improvements of an 50,000 plus sq. ft. former retail building. I welcome your ideas for financing and business climate as I move forward…

I was doing my daily ritual of moving through IBI's website and my eye caught the section "Top Bowling Center News from Around the World". There was listed a handful of the kinds of activities we spend our evenings watching on television to relax: a stabbing, arson perpetrated by a rival center operator, a brawl and a look back at a massacre in New Mexico in 1990. Wow! And that's not counting the mundane things such as weddings, wakes, community meetings, birthdays and on and on and on.
It…

I had an opportunity on Feb. 3 to speak before a group of New Jersey bowling proprietors; a savvy group of proprietors that are withstanding the economic woes of the Northeast corridor. With NYC unemployment approaching 11% and parts of New Jersey facing similar woes, these proprietors are finding ways, as a group, to meet these challenges head on.
In fact their Associations won the BPAA…

I recently wrote a newsletter article about Poway Fun Bowl in guess where, Poway California! They have been offering online party reservations since January 2009. No, this is not a simple "fill out the form and wait for an answer, we'll get back to you" process common on many websites, this is a real "show us the dates, times so we can book right now and move on with our day" type of process that you have come to expect from hotels and airlines...they've been doing this for years. Now, pioneers…

Maybe its time to hit the reset button.
All the scurrying around and around for the newest promotion or the newest techno marketing tactic makes me dizzy. For what? Because we have been brainwashed into thinking that we can be better if we do the latest and the greatest; sort of like the flavor of the week; It's "Moreitis" the thought that we have been trained to hear - work hard and…
