"I admire what you are doing for you good friend. Friends and family that you love and love you back, honor, integrity and a deep appreciation for life are the most important things a man can have. "
Jeff Bojay USBC President
Mark Roth the "Father of the Modern Game of Bowling" Befriended me when I was 13 years old.
He inspired me to become the man I am today. I worked hard and became a Member of the PBA since 1979. I opened my first bowling pro shop at 17 years old. I have helped thousands of bowlers improve their game and enjoyment level of the game I so do love.
I worked hard learning every aspect of this game and then to the business side. I realized the importance or servicing the proprietors of the sport I love. I currently am the Vice President of Sales for Eastern United States for the best company I have ever represented, JCP PRECISON BOWLING SYSTEMS.
I save center owners between 25% to 30% on their replacement parts for their AMF & BRUNSWICK Machinery.
Saving money in today's economy is vital to keep a center viable so that they can stay in business. When a center closes a angel loses its wings as far as I am concerned.
When a center closes in a town, there is a young man or young woman that won' t have the chance to learn and enjoy the game the way I did. I have met so many amazing people being involved with this sport. I have had 49 years of fun and enjoyment so far, many more to come, I pray.
This is why when I heard the distressing news about my friend and brother from a different mother, Mark Roth, I decided to become pro active.
I spearheaded an effort to help him out. He is in a bad financial and physical shape. I refuse to allow the man that inspired millions of bowlers to get off their duffs, and go to their local establishments and bowl. Spend money in that center, help the owners profit. I felt as every person I have spoke to that it was time for Bowling to do what it has never done, Take care of its own.
Mark will need years of extensive therapy to regain a quality of life you and I enjoy. Being able to walk again with a cane will be a god blessed event. To be able to move his left arm and fingers also will be. Marks days of inspiration have not yet ended however he will inspire many handicapped Bowlers when all is said and done.
Bowling centers all over the country are having or gearing up to have "Fund Raising events" to donate to the "MARK ROTH SUPPORT FUND" that has been set up thru the BOWLING FOUNDATION. The Bowling Foundation's vision is "To serve as the central and premier charitable arm of the sport of bowling, the industry, and its partners worldwide, and to become a philanthropic leader toward positive social change." The Bowling Foundation's missions is "To enhance the lives of others through the sport of bowling, particularly reaching out toward youth, those less fortunate, underprivileged or in need, giving them increased chance for success, health, fitness and the joy of sport; while fostering bowling across all sectors of society and the world.
the Foundation has got the full support of the following;
As the “Charitable arm of bowling,” the foundation is fully supported by the leading entities for the sport including the United States Bowling Congress, (USBC) The Bowling Proprietors Association of America, (BPAA) the Bowling Proprietors Association International (BPAI), Strike Ten Entertainment, (STE) the Professional Bowlers Association, (PBA) the International Bowling Pro Shop & Instructors Association (IBPSIA) the Bowling Writers Association (BWA) and many others including manufacturers, media and local bowling entities
I had a conversation with Fred Schreyer of the PBA and he told me what the PBA is doing. They have named the Plastic Ball Event in March 2010 The" Mark Roth Plastic Ball Open". This event will have all the players using the same ball, that will have the image of Mark Roth on it. They will auction the equipment off that the pro's use and donate those proceeds to the Mark Roth support fund. Among other's they collect. This event will be a yearly tournament. I am sure Fred doesn't want to show the difficulties that Professional Bowlers have as a whole making it after their Professional Bowling Careers are over. Fact is when the Pro's ran the ship we did nothing to help ourselves that way. We never set any kind of retirement fund of help fund up.
I also at bowl expo spoke with Warren Hardy, Brunswick's top man. I told him about what I propose to do and he was totally on board with my idea and said it will work if all of bowling works together for this goal.
MY PROPOSAL TO ALL OF BOWLING
TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN
I want to see thru the Bowling Foundation and Under Mark Roth's name a general emergency "Relief Fund" for all Bowlers that pay dues to the USBC and the PBA.
I want to see annual fund raising events across the country in BPAA member centers, to raise funds for there own members. Their Bowlers their customers. US, you and I. Male, female, young and old. I want to see the delegates raise the fees next year $ 1.00 or more and send it to this fund. 2.5 million of us. $2.5 million in the fund each year plus fund raising moneys into this fund to be there in the event god forbid you become sick, indigent, helpless. A emergency fund to help us. If 1000 centers raise $2000.00 a year. You do the math. This will also encourage centers that are not members of the BPAA to rejoin the organization.
This is so very easy to do. Its already set up! All that needs to be done is promote it. The USBC and the FOUNDATION will come up with a fund raising package that can be sent out to each center. All they have to do is do what they do. Promote for their own customers. Many ask "What do my Dues go to" This will be an answer for that question. Its can be used as a spring board to encourage membership and to retain those that do bowl as well as to get new bowlers to join our great sports organized competition. Every organization , pro shop, web site should be on board.
THIS WILL BE THE FIRST TIME IN OUR SPORT WE CAN FOR ONCE JOIN HANDS TOGETHER. YOU CANNOT LET THIS CHANCE PASS US BY. NEVER HAS BOWLING DONE ANYTHING LIKE THIS. DO YOU WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FAILURE OF THIS?
The award program was a carrot that was dangled in front of our faces for years and that has been scaled back, the days of giving a pickle patch for a three bagger are gone. People demand more and here is the answer.
I beg for your input, ideas, anything you want to bring to the table. All of us have to be involved. How you run your fund raising events is up to you. The most successful ones can be shared with others. Please help me save the sport I love so much. Let's help keep it profitable and keep centers open so a young man like me, can have a lifetime of enjoyment and fun in a world so crazy. Without bowlers, what are we.
Feel free to call me with anything I am able to do to help you,
